Job description

Building and General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an entry level opportunity with room for growth as a Custodian II. This position is part of a diverse team that works in the historic Montpelier Complex providing general cleaning duties to our tenants and the public. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 12:00pm to 8:30 pm. This position requires successful completion of multiple background checks.

BGS is a diverse organization with over 340 employees serving state agencies and departments within state government. BGS provides the facilities services required for all state agencies and departments to accomplish their mission. Duties are performed during an assigned shift at one or more state owned or leased buildings. Cleaning work often involves addressing bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infections material. Incumbents must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift weights of up to 50-lbs. is necessary. Overtime and evening work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year or more of building custodial work that includes floor maintenance tasks such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction.

OR

One (1) year as a BGS Custodian I.

Special Requirements

Some positions in this class require a valid driver’s license and own transportation for travel between work locations.

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
