Hastings YMCA is looking for a Custodian available for Monday & Tuesday evening shifts and Saturday & Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.

We consider an individual’s background and experience when determining salary; therefore, the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a range of benefits and earned time off, which vary based on part-time or full-time status.

The salary for this position starts at $16.00 hourly.

1. Job Summary:

The Custodian II is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of assigned areas. This role involves duties such as mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, meeting setup, pool cleaning, snow removal, lawn care, and other cleaning tasks. The incumbent interacts positively with members and staff, responding to requests or informing maintenance staff. Member service is the main objective, demonstrating YMCA core values: honesty, responsibility, caring, equity, and respect.

2. Essential Functions:

• Complete daily duties and maintain assigned areas and equipment.
• Perform janitorial duties including mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, meeting setup, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, lawn care, snow removal, and general cleaning.
• Report needed repairs, repair as directed, and follow up with staff.
• Ensure the building and property are secure during shifts and report incidents or hazards.
• Handle cleanup of blood or body fluids following safety protocols.
• Operate motorized cleaning equipment.

3. Relationships:

This position reports to the Custodial Supervisor, who reports to the Executive Director. The role involves working closely with staff to meet cleanliness standards and attending relevant training programs.

4. Qualifications:

• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, and manuals.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to learn about cleaning methods, equipment, chemicals, and safety procedures.

5. Work Conditions:

• Move up to 50 pounds of materials or tools.
• Work at heights up to 30 feet and in various outdoor and indoor conditions.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely.
• Perform tasks involving bending, reaching, crouching, and working in confined spaces.
• Respond to emergency and on-call situations.

6. Additional Notes:

This description covers major functions but is not exhaustive. The incumbent will also follow directions from the Custodial Supervisor.
