Overview

Buildings and General Services at the State of Vermont has an exciting opportunity with room for growth as a Custodian II. As part of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team you will work as part of a group and independently. This position serves the Capital District in Montpelier, which includes the state house and many historic buildings. The Custodian will be tasked with general cleaning tasks including but not limited to: vacuuming, moping, dusting, trash removal and recycling.



This is a full-time position, and the hours are 12pm - 8:30pm. Position requires a valid driver's license and successful completion of a background check.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed during an assigned shift at one or more state owned or leased buildings. Cleaning work often involves addressing bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infections material. Incumbents must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift weights of up to 50-lbs. is necessary. Overtime and evening work may be required.


Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year or more of building custodial work that includes floor maintenance tasks such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction.


OR


One (1) year as a BGS Custodian I.


Special Requirements

Some positions in this class require a valid driver's license and own transportation for travel between work locations.


Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
