Job summary

Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, OH is seeking a reliable Custodian & Ice Arena Technician to maintain a clean, safe ice arena and support students, staff, and the Gilmour community. This hands-on role includes daily custodial duties and ice rink maintenance while facilitating events and activities.

Responsibilities include cleaning restrooms and building areas, sweeping and scrubbing floors, maintaining glass, operating ice resurfacer equipment, and performing basic repairs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Ability to operate an ice resurfacer safely.
• Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in the ice arena environment.
• Must pass a background check.
• Availability for rotating weekend coverage.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain restrooms, locker rooms, and all building areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors and carpets; buff or wax as needed.
• Maintain clean glass throughout the ice arena.
• Disinfect high-touch surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, desks, shared equipment).
• Empty trash and recycling and transport waste to outdoor containers.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning checklists.
• Operate ice resurfacing equipment to maintain smooth ice for hockey, figure skating, and public skating.
• Cover Zamboni operator shifts as requested.
• Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions and service requests.
• Promote positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and the Gilmour community.

This hands-on role includes daily custodial duties and ice rink maintenance while supporting students, staff, and the Gilmour community. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to quality service.

Responsibilities:

• Clean and maintain restrooms, locker rooms, and all building areas
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors and carpets; buff or wax as needed
• Maintain clean glass throughout the ice arena
• Disinfect high-touch surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, desks, shared equipment)

Facility & Equipment:

• Perform basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs
• Operate and maintain building equipment
• Monitor supply levels and report needs to supervisors
• Set up and break down tables, chairs, and equipment for events and meetings; return items to storage
• Move office furniture and building equipment as needed

Ice Rink Operations:

• Operate ice resurfacing equipment to maintain smooth ice for hockey, figure skating, and public skating
• Cover Zamboni operator shifts as requested

Customer Service:

• Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions and service requests
• Promote positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and the Gilmour community

Qualifications (required):

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Basic knowledge of hand and power tools
• Ability to operate an ice resurfacer and other maintenance equipment safely
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 80 pounds
• Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and stairs, and to stand, reach, stretch, crouch, stoop, kneel, and climb for extended periods
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in the ice arena environment
• Must pass a BCI/FBI background check
• Availability for rotating weekend coverage

Preferred:

• Prior custodial, facilities, or ice arena maintenance experience
• Basic electrical, plumbing, or carpentry skills
