Job Summary

Supervises the construction, installation, alteration, and repair of sheetmetal and roofing projects in accordance with blueprints, drawings, and work orders; inspects roofs; and makes recommendations for replacements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises, plans,organizes, and controls sheetmetal and roofing activities to include the construction, installations, alteration, or repair of sheetmetal or roofing products.
  • Assists the Major Projects Coordinator and other Project Coordinators with inspections, reviewing and estimating of new roofs and re-roofing projects. Meets with Architects and Engineers to plan and design new roofs and re-roof projects.
  • Determines type, gauge, and amount of material required for performance of work. Supervises and participates in shingle, rolled, built-up, and clay tile roofing repairs. Performs fabrication of local manufactured items required for support of other trades.
  • Coordinates and participates in the setting up and operating of equipment such as powersaws, drill presses, hand and power shears, pan and box brakes, lock-formers, cleat benders, and rollers to cut, punch, thread, and formsheetmetal.
  • Assembles ducts, hoods, and other sheetmetal products; solders and bolts connections; applies insulation as required; and inspects, assembles, and installs for conformance with specifications.
  • Performs operational checks of ducts and other sheetmetal installations to determine corrective action to be taken to include maintenance and repair.
  • Follows a predetermined schedule of preventive maintenance. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in a timely, fair, and objective manner.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of project control, cost estimating techniques, and material resources management through obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use and care of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.
  • Skill in managing one's own time and the time of others while analyzing, organizing, prioritizing work, completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Skill in personnel resources management through motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents and volunteers.
  • Ability to operate office machines, including calculator, and personal computer.
  • Ability to obtain a driver’s license prior to employment.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to perform maintenance, to follow instructions, and to interpret drawings and diagrams as well as problem-solve a variety of situations.
