Job summary

CBRE Government & Defense Services is seeking a reliable Custodian to perform routine interior and exterior cleaning and maintenance in federal facilities. The role requires adherence to contract standards and safety procedures while maintaining clean, safe spaces.

You will handle daily cleaning tasks, lawn care, trash removal, and basic landscaping, with a Monday through Friday day shift. A high school diploma and two years of related experience are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 years of related experience.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Follow basic work routines and communicate effectively.
• Experience in custodial/grounds maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily cleaning support to high-traffic areas as designated by supervisor.
• Stock bathrooms with toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, and soap.
• Sweep, vacuum, wipe, and mop storage areas, hallways, restrooms, elevators, etc.
• Dust furniture, walls, and equipment; move items as needed.
• Clean windows, glass partitions and mirrors; use cleaners and squeegees.
• Store cleaning supplies safely; follow contract standards.
• Attend staff meetings and required training sessions.
• Operate power equipment safely and follow chemical handling procedures.
• Mow grass, trim hedges, prune shrubs; landscape as directed.
• Water lawns during dry periods; dispose of leaves and litter.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

This position performs routine custodial and grounds maintenance duties to maintain clean, safe, and well-kept interior and exterior facilities in accordance with established procedures and company standards.

Shift: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm

Primary Job Functions

Custodial Duties

• Provide daily cleaning support to high ‑ traffic areas of the building designated by the supervisor.
• Stock bathrooms with toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, and soap.
• Sweep, vacuum, wipe, and mop storage units, hallways, restrooms, elevators, etc.
• Dust furniture, walls, and equipment, including moving and rearranging items as needed.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
• Ensure that cleaning supplies are stored in a safe, secure area always.
• Complete standardized cleaning processes per company and government contract standards.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
• Attend regular staff meetings and required in service training sessions.
• Follow basic work routines and standards in the application of work.
• Use existing procedures to solve straightforward problems while having limited opportunity to exercise discretion.
• Cut grass using walking-type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs).
• Trim hedges and edge around walkways, flower beds, and wells using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.
• Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears and other hand tools.
• Apply fertilizer or insecticide to lawns, shrubs, and trees as directed.
• Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs as part of seasonal or routine landscaping.
• Water lawns and shrubs during dry periods using hoses or sprinkler systems.
• Pick up and dispose of leaves, paper, or other litter to maintain clean outdoor areas.
• Clean comfort stations, office areas, workshop spaces, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Certification

• High School Diploma or equivalent required with 2 years of job-related experience.

Working Conditions

• Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and moving furniture.
• Ability to follow basic work routines.
• Ability to communicate.
• Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
• Ability to efficiently complete assigned tasks within designated timeframes.
