Job summary

Pioneer Human Services in Washington state is seeking a Custodian to help maintain safe, clean facilities for residents, staff and visitors. You’ll perform scheduled janitorial duties and support program activities as part of a mission-driven, people-first organization.

The role requires basic computer skills and CPR/First Aid certification, with prior janitorial experience and a compassionate service mindset preferred. This is a full-time, on-site position with competitive pay.

Qualifications

• Formal education not required for the role.
• Intermediate computer skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification or within two months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Remove garbage from each floor at shift start and end.
• Clean floors, vacuum, sweep, mop, and wax as needed.
• Sanitize lavatories and wash basins; clean mirrors and walls.
• Report maintenance problems to the Facility Manager.
• Maintain an inventory of supplies and perform monthly inspections.
• Respond to residents' concerns and provide assistance as needed.
• Coordinate with Facility Managers to address issues promptly.

Compensation:

New hires for this position typically start between $17.30 and $23.35 hourly, depending on factors such as work location, experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, internal equity, and market conditions. While the full pay range is provided to support pay transparency, individual compensation will vary within the range based on these factors.

What you'll do

The Custodian is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of residents, staff and visitors; and provides quality services and structured programming designed to promote successful community living. As a member of the PHS team committed to the mission and vision of top-notch programs, the Custodian performs assigned/scheduled janitorial duties.

PRIMARY/ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain Program & Facility Safety:

• Remove garbage from each floor at the beginning at end of shift. This requires transporting the cans on wheels to the garbage compactors and recycling bins. Additionally, this requires bringing the larger containers to the street periodically throughout the week.
• Clean common area floors including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and waxing as needed.
• Clean and sanitize lavatories and wash basins, clean mirrors, walls, and wash room floors.
• Complete pre-approved maintenance items as requested
• Report any maintenance problems or issues identified while conducting building rounds in a timely manner to the Facility Manager.

Maintain Documentation:

• Maintain an inventory of supplies needed to perform required duties.
• Perform monthly inspections as requested.

Participant Engagement:

• Respond to residents’ concerns, and provide assistance as indicated.

Communication and Collaboration:

• Coordinate with the Facility Managers, and Program Manager to ensure issues and problems are addressed in a timely fashion.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED

• Formal education not required
• Intermediate level of computer proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook,
• Current CPR/First AID Certification or within two months of hire.

PREFERRED/DESIRABLE

• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience in janitorial/custodial work.
• One-year experience in human services, preferably working with homeless adults, the economically disadvantaged, mentally health disorders or chemically dependent.
