The Jewish Community Center is seeking a Custodian to support the organization’s mission by maintaining clean and safe facilities, assisting with room setups, laundry duties, and building upkeep. The role involves lifting, standing, and frequent movement across indoor spaces to ensure a welcoming environment for staff, members, and rental clients.

The position requires independence and teamwork, adherence to policies, and availability for varied hours, including events.

Qualificações

Responsabilidades

• Launder, fold and restock towels.
• Mop, sweep and scrub floors and other surfaces as needed.
• Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings.
• Ongoing cleaning and servicing of restrooms and locker rooms.
• Frequent restocking of consumables, towels, and toiletries.
• Collect waste paper and recyclables.
• Safely operate equipment (clothes washer, clothes dryer, elevator).
• Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout work area.
• Assist the kitchen with transport of food when needed.
• Transport items throughout the J as needed.
• Follow and abide by all J rules and policies.
• Attend J and departmental meetings as required.
• Report any issue that you cannot resolve but requires attention.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Summary:The Custodian is dedicated to fulfilling the Jewish Community Center’s (the J’s) mission of enriching lives, building community, promoting inclusivity, and creating meaningful Jewish experiences. The Custodian proactively collaborates across departments to provide excellent customer service to our staff, members, vendors, and rental clients through routine cleaning, room set up, laundry duties, and upkeep of the buildings and grounds.Responsibilties:Must be able to work indendepently and well with others.Launder, fold and restock towels.Mop, sweep and scrub floors and other surfaces as needed.Clean and dust furniture, exihibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings.Ongoing cleaning and servicing of restrooms and locker rooms. Frequent restocking of consumables, towels, and toiletries.Collect waste paper and recyclables.Report items that require repair.Safely operate necessary equipment to perform job tasks (i.e., clothes washer, clothes dryer, elevator, etc.).Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout work area.Assist the kitchen with transport of food when needed.Transport items throughout the J as needed. (i.e., meals, packages, mail, etc.)Follow and abide by all J rules and policies.Attend J and departmental meetings as required.Report any issue that you cannot resolve but requires attention.Other duties as assigned by supervisor.Physical Demands:Must pass pre-employment physical.Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking. Must be able to spend majority of shift walking, twisting, bending, pushing, stooping, and pulling.Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility.Requires the ability to communicate effectively.Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects not to exceed 50+ lbs.Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.Most tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by building environmental systems; however, laundry staff must be able to work in extreme temperatures found in laundry rooms (+80F), possibly for one hour or more.Qualifications:Grade School graduationHigh School Diploma/GED preferred.Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions.Prior related experience preferred.Must possess basic computational ability.General knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals and their safety is a plus.Must be attentive to details with outstanding internal and external customer service skills.Flexible schedule to allow for weekend and evening work is required.Able to volunteer to work set up and tear down for events.
