Job summary

Barnard College in New York invites applications for a Custodian position (Thursday - Monday, 7am - 3:30pm, RDO: Tuesday & Wednesday). The role involves cleaning academic buildings, residence halls and grounds to established standards under supervision.

Responsibilities include restroom cleaning, trash disposal, moving supplies, event setup, snow clearing, and compliance with safety policies. Experience with mechanical cleaning equipment is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in use of mechanical cleaning equipment is required.
• Experience in cleaning or custodian work is helpful but may not always be required.
• Experience operating equipment including floor stripper and polisher, carpet extractor, water vacuum, vacuum cleaner, and cleaning solutions and chemicals.
• Most work is performed inside; some exterior work may be required.

Responsibilities

• Clean restrooms including floors, walls, tiles, ceiling, doors, vents, fixtures, mirrors, etc.
• Replenish restroom supplies.
• Dispose of trash.
• Collect, transport and dispose of trash and recyclables from rooms, offices and common areas.
• Clean and maintain walls, floors, doors, glass surfaces in student rooms, lounges, kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, stairways, lounges, classrooms, labs, library, dining areas, storage areas, entrances, and offices.
• Maintain floors and carpets by sweeping, mopping, stripping and waxing.
• Move and arrange furniture, equipment and supplies as required for events.
• Prepare residential halls rooms and suites for academic year and summer, ensuring readiness for occupants.
