Job summary

Washington County Public Schools seeks a dedicated Custodian for the Center for Education Services to maintain school facilities and grounds. This 12-month, 8-hour shift position on the 2nd shift requires physical ability and reliability to perform cleaning tasks and basic facility upkeep.

Responsibilities include scrubbing, mopping, waxing, and reporting maintenance needs; plus duties to protect premises, monitor HVAC checks, and assist with minor repairs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Capable of climbing stairs, ladders, etc., and carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Able to follow oral or simple written instructions.
• Regular and predictable attendance.
• Willingness to participate in in-service training.
• Experience in commercial cleaning and mechanical/carpentry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning tasks such as scrubbing, mopping, sweeping, waxing, dusting.
• Provide a presence to deter theft and trespass.
• Inspect and assist with heating/air conditioning systems.
• Assist with minor emergency repairs.
• Clean and care for grounds.
• Maintain records and inventory of custodial equipment and supplies.
• Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma/GED or has any combination of education, training, or experience that would qualify the candidate to successfully perform in the position.
Capable of climbing stairs, ladders, etc., carrying reasonable loads, shoveling snow, operating gas powered equipment, and other manual tasks as required to maintain the buildings in first-class condition.
Ability to follow oral or simple written instructions.
Willingness to participate in in-service training programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Responsibilities
Perform operations as scrubbing, mopping, sweeping, waxing, dusting, etc., involved in the cleaning of school buildings by using hand or mechanical cleaning tools.
Provide a presence to protect school against fire, discourage theft, and/or damage by trespassers.
Care for and/or checks (as required in the site schedule) the heating/air conditioning system whether it is low pressure, steam, hot air, electric, or oil fired system.
Assist with and/or make minor emergency repairs.
Clean and care for the grounds.
Keep work records and inventory of custodial equipment and supplies, and order supplies when necessary.
Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
Perform other duties as assigned.
