Job summary

Poplarville School District is seeking a Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment across district facilities. The role emphasizes daily cleaning, upkeep, and safe handling of cleaning supplies, with attention to district policies and procedures.

You will report to the Director of Field Operations and collaborate with the Building and Grounds team to keep classrooms, halls and outdoor spaces in good order for students and staff.

Qualifications

• General maintenance, upkeep and repair responsibilities.
• Compliance with laws, district policies, and team procedures related to cleaning chemicals and waste handling.
• Inventory management of supplies, equipment, and fuel with proactive requisitions.
• Maintains neat, clean building and premises including sidewalks and play areas.
• Daily classroom sweeping and cleaning of corridors.
• Disinfection of toilet floors and sanitary fixtures daily.
• Groundskeeping duties as assigned to maintain the property.

Job Goal: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

Essential

Functions:

• Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
• Complies with laws, district policies, and team procedures pertaining to use of chemicals (including but not limited to cleaning supplies and stripping/waxing components) and pertaining to the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
• Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the FOD far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his duties.
• Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
• Sweeps classrooms daily.
• Cleans corridors for the beginning of the school day and during the day when their condition requires it.
• Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
• Keeps the grounds free from litter.
• Works as directed by FOD with the Building and Grounds Worker to perform yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the
