Job summary

Community College of Baltimore County is seeking a custodian to maintain a sanitary environment across college facilities. Positions are located in Catonsville, Dundalk, and Essex.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, six months custodian experience, and be flexible for shift changes. Training for bloodborne pathogens is required within six months, and Hepatitis B vaccination or waiver is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Sweeps and cleans floors in classrooms, offices and corridors using cleaning tools.
  • Disinfects and sanitizes all touch points and hard surfaces as required.
  • Maintains lavatories and locker rooms in clean sanitary conditions and refills supplies.
  • Cleans building entrances within 30 feet of the building.
  • Removes trash/recycling from the building.
  • Reports supply needs to supervisor and any safety issues to Public Safety.
  • Moves furniture, supplies and equipment as directed.
  • Reports maintenance items in need of repairs.
  • Follows county, state, college and departmental policies and procedures.

Job description

Custodian is responsible for a variety of cleaning tasks related to the upkeep of and maintaining a sanitary environment for the college facilities.

Background Check
  • Candidates may be required to successfully pass a backgroundinvestigation, to include driving, fingerprint and criminal history evaluation.
  • Candidates may be required to successfully complete a pre-hire, post-offer physical examination, including drug screening.

This is an Essential Position and the employee must be available for building emergencies, and to perform regular duties or other assigned duties at times when the campus is closed to students and non-essential staff. Subject to 24-hour standby or call-in for building emergencies. May be required to work overtime or special hours as needed or required.

  1. Sweeps and cleans floors in classrooms, offices and corridors using brooms, brushes, mops, vacuum cleaners and similar cleaning aids. Empties and cleans waste/recycling containers. Cleans windows and sanitizes drinking fountains. Cleans and/or polishes office and classroom furniture and equipment.
  2. Disinfects and sanitizes all touch points and other hard surfaces as required
  3. Maintains lavatories and locker rooms in clean sanitary conditions. Mops and scrubs floors, walls and partitions. Cleanses and deodorizes fixtures and hardware. Refills towel, tissue, soap and deodorant containers.
  4. Cleans building entrances (up to 30 feet from building).
  5. Removes all accumulated trash/recycling from building.
  6. Reports to supervisor the need for additional cleaning supplies to maintain an appropriate level in respective Building Services closets.
  7. Reports all matters of safety to supervisor and Public Safety.
  8. Moves furniture, supplies and equipment as directed and required.
  9. Reports all identified maintenance items in need of repairs.
  10. Effectively performs in a service environment and follows all county, state, college and departmental policies, procedures and practices.
