Program/Department: Young Women’s Shelter

Work Location: 968 3rd Ave., Brooklyn NY, 11232

Hours/Shift: Full time - 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with occasional evenings and weekends based on program needs

Salary Range: $16.50 per hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The custodial worker is responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of the building to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff, residents, and visitors.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform daily cleaning of the facility and grounds, including snow and ice removal.
  2. Maintain the exterior free from graffiti and other unsightly conditions.
  3. Conduct routine maintenance inspections and seasonal repairs of A/C and heating units.
  4. Strip and wax floors, clean light fixtures, and replace bulbs.
  5. Remove debris, leaves, and ensure proper drainage.
  6. Clean all bathrooms thoroughly and manage waste disposal.
  7. Monitor inventory of sanitary supplies and restock as needed.
  8. Assist with unpacking, stocking supplies, and minor repairs.
  9. Report major damages and oversee repairs.
  10. Secure the premises after hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting alarms.
  11. Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors.
Qualifications/Skills
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to ascend/descend up to 8 flights of stairs.
  • Experience working with hazardous substances with proper PPE.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record is a plus.
  • OMH fingerprinting and criminal background check required.
