Position Details

Department: Transitional Living - DHS Women's Shelter

Reports to: Program/Site Director, Facilities Coordinator, or Director of Facilities

Status/Hours: Full-time - 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, with some evenings and weekends depending on program needs

Salary Range: $16.50 per hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The custodial worker is responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of the building, ensuring a safe, clean, and pleasant environment for staff, residents, and visitors.

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily cleaning of the facility and grounds, including snow and ice removal.
  • Maintain the exterior free from graffiti and other unsightly conditions.
  • Perform routine maintenance inspections.
  • Conduct seasonal cleaning and repairs of A/C and heating units.
  • Strip and wax floors.
  • Clean and replace light bulbs and fixtures.
  • Remove debris and leaves from the roof to prevent leaks.
  • Clean bathrooms and fixtures.
  • Remove, recycle, and dispose of garbage and trash.
  • Keep inventory of sanitary supplies and restock as needed.
  • Assist with deliveries, pickups, and drop-offs.
  • Perform minor repairs and report major damages.
  • Secure facilities after hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend up to 8 flights of stairs.
  • Ability to work with hazardous substances using PPE.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record is a plus.
  • OMH fingerprinting and criminal background check required.
  • Previous maintenance experience preferred.
