Job summary

University of Houston is seeking a Local Custodial Services team member to perform general cleaning under minimal supervision. The role involves routine cleaning and addressing more complex issues with guidance while complying with security requirements related to critical infrastructure access.

Responsibilities include floor care, carpet cleaning, waste management, surface cleaning, restock of supplies, training new staff, and reporting safety or maintenance needs.

• Ability to read, write and follow simple oral instructions.
• Six months of job related experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop and scrub floors, stairs and surfaces inside and outside buildings.
• Vacuum carpets, scrub and refinish floors; shampoo carpets.
• Empty wastebaskets and replenish liners; manage trash disposal.
• Wipe, dust and polish furniture, fixtures, glass and windows.
• Clean sinks, toilets and tiles; replenish supplies in janitorial closets.
• Maintain supplies and assist in ordering janitorial materials.
• Provide hands-on training to new employees.
• Notify supervisors about safety issues or maintenance needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Description:

Under minimal supervision, performs general cleaning dutiesreferring more complex issues to appropriate person for resolution.Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, thisposition researches, works on, or has access to criticalinfrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security orintegrity of the University infrastructure. This position requirespersonnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or notcriminal history or continuous connections for the government orpolitical apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent theemployee from being able to maintain the security or integrity ofthe infrastructure.

1. 1. Sweeps, mops and scrubs floors, stairs and other surfacesinside and outside buildings.
2. 2. Vacuums carpet in offices, rooms and public areas; scrubs,strips, refinishes, waxes, and buffs floors using powered scrubberand buffer; shampoos carpet and rugs using shampooing machine.
3. 3. Empties wastebaskets, pencil sharpeners, smoking urns,ashtrays, etc. into containers or plastic bags; replaces liners inwastebaskets; places trash in collection area for removal.
4. 4. Wipes, dusts and/or polishes furniture, fixtures, glass doorsand windows, door trims, etc.
5. 5. Wipes and scrubs sinks, toilets and tiles; removes suppliesfrom janitorial closet and replenishes soaps, towels, toilet paper,etc.
6. 6. Maintains adequate supplies in janitorial closet; may assistin ordering supplies and materials.
7. 7. Provides hands on training to new employees.
8. 8. Notifies Area Lead and/or Supervisors about safety issues ormaintenance needs.
9. 9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Requires the ability to read, write and follow simple oralinstructions as might normally be acquired through up to 8 years offormal schooling.

Six (6) months of job related experience is required.
