Job summary

The University of Houston seeks a Custodian to perform basic cleaning duties under direct supervision in campus facilities. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waste disposal, restroom cleaning, and reporting safety issues.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, mops and scrubs floors, stairs and other surfaces inside and outside buildings.
• Vacuums carpet in offices, rooms and public areas; cleans floors and shampoo carpets as needed.
• Empties wastebaskets and manages trash; removes and replaces liners.
• Wipes, dusts and polishes furniture, fixtures, glass, doors, trims.
• Cleans sinks, toilets and tiles; restocks soap, towels, paper products.
• Notifies supervisor of safety or maintenance issues and when supplies run low.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Description:

Under direct supervision, performs basic cleaning duties. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, thisposition researches, works on, or has access to criticalinfrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security orintegrity of the University infrastructure. This position requirespersonnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or notcriminal history or continuous connections for the government orpolitical apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent theemployee from being able to maintain the security or integrity ofthe infrastructure.

1. 1. Sweeps, mops and scrubs floors, stairs and other surfacesinside and outside buildings.
2. 2. Vacuums carpet in offices, rooms and public areas; scrubs,strips, waxes, and buffs floors using powered scrubber and buffer;shampoos carpet and rugs using shampooing machine.
3. 3. Empties wastebaskets, pencil sharpeners, smoking urns,ashtrays, etc. into containers or plastic bags; replaces liners inwastebaskets; places trash in collection area for removal.
4. 4. Wipes, dusts and/or polishes furniture, fixtures, glass doorsand windows, door trims, etc.
5. 5. Wipes and scrubs sinks, toilets and tiles; removes suppliesfrom janitorial closet and replenishes soaps, towels, toilet paper,etc.
6. 6. Notifies appropriate supervisor of potential safety andmaintenance issues and when supplies and materials need to bereplenished.
7. 7. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Requires the ability to read, write and follow simple oralinstructions as might normally be acquired through up to 8 years offormal schooling.
