Position Summary

This position is for day shift 6AM-2:30PM, Monday – Friday.

This is work providing leadership to employees in the Custodian 1 classification while also performing daily housekeeping duties including cleaning restrooms, classrooms, lecture halls, offices, common-use areas, halls and corridors stairwells, and carpet and tile floors in a professional manner.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
Must be available to serve as sole operator for assigned shift work during evenings, overnight, weekend and holidays.
Must be available for emergency response (on-call) after regular working hours and during holidays.
Must have a valid Class E driver’s license.
Knowledge of disinfecting procedures.
Knowledge of complex chemical cleaners and their safe mixing and use.
Knowledge of complex floor cleaning and maintenance machines.
Skill in safely performing disinfecting procedures.
Skill in safely mixing and using complex chemical cleaners.
Skill in safely operating complex floor cleaning and maintenance machines.
Ability to safely operate and maneuver high speed buffers, scrubbers and other assigned floor care equipment.
Ability to understand and apply LSUHSC rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Ability to apply safety policy and procedures for personal protection and the safety of the campus community.
Ability to communicate information effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to perform efficiently within a group as well as independently.
Ability to perform tasks requiring standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and walking significant distances between and within buildings.
Ability to push, pull, lift or move loads of at least 35 pounds (bags of trash, cleaning carts, buffers and scrubbers, cleaning supplies and the like).
Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges between the interiors and exteriors of buildings.
Visual ability, corrected, to observe dangerous situations in the work area (re: wet floors) in order to redirect others to avoid injuries.

Additional Position Information

LSU Health New Orleans Division of Property and Facilities is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Custodian 1 or 2. The hours of operation for this position is 6:00 am – 2:30 pm.

This position is in a Career Progression Group

As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Custodian 1 or 2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Please refer to the ‘Job Specifications’ tab located at the top of the LA Careers ‘Current Job Opportunities’ page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.

Starting rate of pay for a Custodian 1 is $10 and Custodian 2 is $10.70 per hour. There is also an additional $1 Longevity pay for hours worked only. Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the applicants’ qualifications.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Cleaning elevated walkways
  • Cleaning elevators and stairwells
  • Cleans glass windows and doors
  • Parking garage, parking lot, sidewalk and curb maintenance
  • Follows established procedures precisely to clean and maintain restrooms
  • Follows established procedures precisely to perform periodic floor cleaning and maintenance duties
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
