The City of Greenville seeks an entry-level Custodian to maintain clean interiors and exterior areas across assigned facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning floors and restrooms, operating cleaning equipment, and assisting with event setup and cleanup.
The role emphasizes safety, hazard reporting, and general maintenance support as needed. Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent; training is provided.
Under immediate direction and in compliance with straightforward and standardized policies and procedures, responsible for the overall appearance of assigned facilities by maintaining cleanliness and organization of interior spaces and performing basic grounds maintenance responsibilities for outside areas. Tracks and maintains needed supplies and inventory. Assists with event setup, cleanup, etc. as needed. Proactively identifies, removes, and reports potential safety hazards.

Primary Work Location: Assigned buildings and outdoor facilities.
Protective Equipment Required: Gloves, face mask, and eye protection.
Environmental/Health and Safety Factors: Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed with exposure to risk. Daily exposure to respiratory and chemical hazards. Monthly exposure to physical hazards. Seasonal exposure to extreme temperature and wetness and/or humidity.
Physical Demands: Constantly requires vision, foot controls, balancing, hearing, and twisting. Frequently requires standing, walking, lifting, carrying, handling/grasping, kneeling, reaching, pushing/pulling, bending, and talking. Medium strength demands include exerting up to 10 pounds constantly, exerting up to 20 pounds frequently, and exerting 20-50 pounds occasionally.
Mental Demands: Occasionally requires time pressures and frequent change of tasks.
