Responsibilities

• Performs routine custodial activities at an assigned campus site or facility; cleans and maintains buildings and surrounding grounds to a clean, orderly, and secure state.
• Cleans classrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, offices, and other facilities; dusts, polishes, empties waste receptacles, and manages spills.
• Operates custodial equipment (vacuum, mop, buffers, etc.) and may drive campus vehicles as needed.
• Cleans and disinfects restrooms; replenishes supplies (towels, soap, toilet paper).
• Reports safety hazards and maintenance needs to appropriate staff; participates in facility cleanups during vacations.
• Ensures doors, lights, and security systems are operating and secured as required.

Under the direction of an administrator or manager, performs routine custodial activities at an assigned campus site or facility; maintains buildings and adjacent ground areas in a clean, orderly, and secure condition.

The following duties are typical for this classification. 1. Performs routine custodial activities at an assigned campus site or facility; sweeps, scrubs, mops, strips, waxes, and polishes floors; vacuums rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops, and other work areas; spot cleans and shampoos carpets. *
2. Cleans classrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, auditoriums, lounges, offices, locker rooms, hallways, and other facilities as assigned; dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; empties waste receptacles; spot mops spills; removes gum, debris, and graffiti as needed. *
3. Operates custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines, and other equipment as assigned; operates a forklift as assigned by the position; may drive a vehicle to conduct work. *
4. Cleans and disinfects drinking fountains and restroom facilities, including sinks, toilets, and urinals; fills dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper and other items; washes mirrors, tile, walls, and windows; unclogs drains and toilets. *
5. Picks up paper and other debris from campus grounds, walkways, and areas, adjacent to campus facilities; sweeps concrete surfaces adjacent to campus buildings; plows snow from roads and walkways; spreads ice-melt on walkways as required. *
6. Replaces light bulbs and tubes; cleans boards, trays, and erasers; empties pencil sharpeners; cleans tables, chairs, and floors. *
7. Prunes and irrigates flowers, trees, grass, and shrubs as assigned by the position; picks up debris following assigned tasks; uses blower to clean path of travel at building entrances and walkways. *
8. Locks and unlocks doors, gates, and windows as appropriate; turns lights on and off as needed; maintains security of assigned areas according to established guidelines; sets alarms as appropriate. *
9. Moves and arranges furniture and equipment; prepares classrooms, gymnasiums, and other facilities for special events or meetings as assigned; sets up and assembles chairs, tables, and other furniture and equipment; cleans up furniture, equipment, and debris following these events. *
10. Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; reports needs for maintenance and repairs to appropriate authority. *
11. Participates in the thorough cleaning and restoration of campus facilities during vacation periods. *
12. Sanitizes areas assigned after identified COVID-19 case. *
13. Handles emergency operations after hours – Cal Safety communication for campus alarms. *
14. Performs related duties that support the overall objective of the position.
