Job summary

Hinds Community College is seeking a Custodian II to join the Maintenance department. You will perform daily cleaning, restrooms sanitation, trash removal, and general upkeep to support a safe, clean campus environment.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with attention to detail, reliability and the capacity to work independently. This is a non-exempt, full-time position reporting to Physical Plant Operations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform essential duties in custodial role.
  • Must lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Facility Cleaning — Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors and surfaces.
  • Restroom Maintenance — Clean and sanitize restrooms; restock supplies.
  • Trash Removal — Empty trash/recycling; transport waste.
  • Surface Sanitization — Disinfect high-touch areas.
  • Minor Maintenance — Replace light bulbs; report repairs; basic upkeep.
  • Event Setup — Arrange furniture and room layouts for meetings/events.
  • Safety Compliance — Follow safety procedures and proper chemical handling.
  • Outdoor Upkeep — Light groundskeeping and debris removal.

  • Facility Cleaning \u2014 Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors and surfaces throughout the building.
  • Restroom Maintenance \u2014 Clean and sanitize restrooms; restock soap, paper products, and supplies.

  • Surface Sanitization \u2014 Disinfect high‑touch surfaces to maintain a healthy environment.
  • Minor Maintenance \u2014 Replace light bulbs, report repairs, and perform basic building upkeep.
  • Event Setup \u2014 Arrange furniture, equipment, and room layouts for meetings or events.
  • Safety Compliance \u2014 Follow safety procedures, use cleaning chemicals properly, and maintain equipment.
  • Outdoor Upkeep \u2014 Assist with light groundskeeping such as sweeping walkways or clearing debris.
Qualifications
  • Experience \u2014 Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred but not always required.
  • Physical Requirements \u2014 Ability to lift 25-50 lbs, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Skills \u2014 Attention to detail, reliability, time management, and ability to work independently.
