Overview

County of Galveston is seeking an entry‑level Custodian to perform custodial work across county buildings and premises. The position requires working under close supervision and minimal independent judgment.

Responsibilities

Performs all general custodian tasks as directed by Lead Custodian or Custodian Supervisor, including:

• Operating floor machines for buffing, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, and carpet cleaning safely.
• Maintaining safety guidelines, company policies, and proper attire.
• Executing tasks on published schedules, such as emptying wastebaskets, dusting furniture, vacuuming carpeting, spot‑cleaning soiled areas, cleaning and sanitizing toilets, basins, and urinals, sweeping and dampmopping floors with disinfectant, refilling restroom dispensers, wiping tables and chairs, and cleaning vending machines.
• Performing custodian functions such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, spray waxing, floor stripping; maintaining restrooms and applying cleaning chemicals; cleaning office furniture, walls, windows, floors; and emptying trash.
• Inspecting buildings for cleanliness and reporting needed repairs.
• Performing other related work as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Skill in using custodial materials, chemicals, and equipment, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and operating scrubbers, extractors, buffers.
• Ability to perform basic custodial tasks at the job location.

Education and Experience

Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED). Experience in custodial work preferred.

Certifications and Licenses

Must possess a current, valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license.

Compensation

Department: Facilities. Salary: $31,040.00.
