Job Description

To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Good physical condition.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license preferred; must be insurable under the District’s regular automobile insurance policy.
• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
• Ability to carry out the duties described below.

Responsibilities

1. Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, play areas, and grounds neat and clean at all times.
2. Shovel, plow, and/or sand walkways and steps as needed.
3. Check daily to ensure all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during building occupancy.
4. Raise the United States flag at or before 8 a.m. on each school day, and lower it at or after 3:30 p.m.
5. Sweep classrooms, dust furniture, and clean all chalk boards daily.
6. Scrub, clean, and disinfect restrooms and locker rooms and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
7. Clean halls after school each day, and during the day if required.
8. Wash all windows, both inside and out at least once a year, and more frequently if necessary.
9. Keep the grounds free of rubbish and perform other tasks needed to maintain the school grounds in a safe, attractive condition.
10. Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in good state of preservation.
11. Make minor building repairs.
12. Report needed repairs promptly to the supervisor.
13. Report any damage to school property immediately to the Site Administrator.
14. Remain on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the Site Administrator.
15. Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day, and ensure all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off before leaving.
16. Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisition needed replacements far enough in advance so they can be delivered in time to not hinder duties.
17. Move furniture or equipment with buildings as required for various activities as directed.
18. Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.
