Job summary

Ball State University Housing is seeking a full-time Custodian for Noyer Halls. The position features a daily 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM schedule, on-campus work, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, FSAs/HSAs, paid time off, and retirement plans.

Responsibilities include cleaning, carpet maintenance, restroom upkeep, dusting and polishing, trash disposal, exterior cleaning, appliance care, safety knowledge, and occasional minor repairs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
• No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals or environmental factors in custodial service.
• Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding of various heights to perform duties.
• Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, University policies, procedures and communications, and perform basic mathematical functions.
• If required by assignment, you must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
• Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
• Must successfully pass manlift certification, if position requires it, within a reasonable period of time after hire.
• Must have at least one year’s work experience (full time or part time).
• You must be 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Clean, renovate, and renew floor finishes (dust mop, sweep, mop, scrub, wax).
• Maintain carpet floors via vacuuming, extraction cleaning, and related tasks.
• Clean and service restrooms and fixtures (lavatory, toilet, urinal, showers).
• Dust, vacuum, clean and/or polish furniture and surfaces; clean facilities, fixtures, hardware and windows; change lighting.
• Collect and dispose of trash, recycling materials and debris into designated receptacles.
• Sweep exterior entrances, landings, steps, and windows; clean exterior fixtures.
• Clean appliances (stoves, ovens, refrigerators, etc.) and maintain cleanliness of facilities.
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of custodial chemicals and safety concerns.
• Lock and unlock doors as required to perform duties per policies.
• Change bed linens and make beds with clean linens as required.
• Arrange, move, and replace furniture; report items needing repair; perform minor repairs.
• Load and unload deliveries; communicate needs to supervisor.
• Guide, supervise, and train student custodial employees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
