The University of Wisconsin is seeking custodians for its athletics facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining order in various spaces like locker rooms and offices. Wisconsin Athletics is hiring 3 custodians to help clean and care for our sports facilities. As part of our custodial team, you will help keep areas like locker rooms, restrooms, offices, floors, training rooms, and weight rooms clean and ready for use.
This job includes different cleaning tasks that may change from day to day. The work requires using cleaning tools and supplies safely and correctly. We are looking for people who are dependable, work well with others, and take pride in keeping things clean and safe.

1. Knowledge of institutional or commercial cleaning methods, techniques, cleaning supplies and equipment.
2. General knowledge of the tools, equipment, and setups used with residential, meeting, and conference activities.
3. Basic knowledge of the activities and services necessary to efficiently provide services for residential, meeting and conference activities.
4. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow workers and station users and guests.
5. Ability to perform duties properly and efficiently under pressure of deadlines and with interruptions.
6. Work Performed: Dust mopping and wet mopping floors and halls. Physical Demands: Mop buckets are normally 32-quart size. When filled 2/3 full of water they will weigh approximately 50 lbs. Must be able to lift/carry buckets filled to 2/3 capacity. Mopping requires considerable movement of arms, twisting and bending of back.
7. Work Performed: Manually, or by machine, strip floor finish and apply new floor finish. Physical Demands: Application of floor finish is similar to mopping demands. Operation of electric floor buffers involves considerable twisting of back. Must be capable of carrying 5 gallon cans of floor finish weighing approximately 47 lbs.
8. Work Performed: Scrub bathroom sinks, toilets, fixtures, floors and walls. Wash inside of windows and ceilings. Physical Demands: Duties require frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, and use of arms above shoulder level. Frequent exposure to cleaning solutions, disinfectants and chemicals some which have strong odors. May be required to work from a stepladder.
9. Work Performed: Operate industrial vacuum cleaners and carpet extractors. Physical Demands: Considerable movement of arms and torso. "Backpack" vacuums, weighing approximately 15 lbs. are used on stairways.
Work Performed: Move supplies, furniture, file cabinets, tables and other equipment. Physical Demands: Carts or dollies available for moving some desks and equipment. Requires lifting, bending and twisting. Other supplies, furniture and items must be moved by hand. Some boxes of supplies weigh approximately 55 lbs., and can be as large as 22" X 18" X 19".
11. Work Performed: Pick up waste paper and recycling from offices, classrooms, labs and empty into outdoor rubbish containers. Physical Demands: Bending, squatting and twisting required to pick up paper and items from floor and from under furniture. Full waste cans (some which may be heavy) must be emptied into carts. Paper pick-up cart weighs approximately 50-60 lbs. when filled with paper. Cart must be lifted and emptied into a large rubbish container which is about 48" above ground level.
12. Work Performed: Climb ladders and replace light bulbs. Physical Demands: Agility is required to climb stepladder and work with hands above head. Six, eight and ten-foot stepladders are most common sizes in use.
13. Work Performed: Snow and ice removal from steps and sidewalks. Physical Demands: Hand shoveling of snow from steps and entryways. Requires lifting, bending and twisting. May be required to operate a snow blower. Must be able to work in winter weather conditions.
14. Work Performed: Cleaning and dusting floors, furniture, doors, radiators, desks, windowsills, chalkboards, etc. Physical Demands: Exposure to dirt, dust, and chalk dust.
15. Must have the ability to work alone performing duties in assigned area(floor/building).
Our immediate need is for the night shift custodian position; however varying shifts may become available depending on applicant preference and Department need at the time of hire.
Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
