Responsibilities
  • Clean and perform routine housekeeping and maintenance of campus buildings, including residence halls, classrooms, and administrative offices.
  • Clean floors and stairwells by vacuuming, sweeping, dust mopping, washing, striping, waxing and buffing.
  • Wash and clean windows, walls, chalkboards, trash cans, furniture, appliances, and other items.
  • Dust furniture, fixtures, woodwork, blinds, and drapes.
  • Maintain and stock bathrooms, including changing and cleaning shower curtains.
  • Water plants and perform other tasks related to the general appearance and upkeep of the building or area.
  • Perform routine maintenance on plumbing, electrical, heating and ventilating systems, including cleaning and minor repairs of air vents, drains, plunging toilets and replacing light bulbs.
  • Empty trash and recycle receptacles, move trash and recyclables, pick up litter in and around buildings, and remove snow and salt around building entrances.
  • Assist with general exterior upkeep such as mulching.
  • Move furniture, appliances and other items such as tables, chairs, desks, beds, mattresses, dressers, stoves and refrigerators.
  • Coordinate and carry out specialized custodial/maintenance functions, such as refinishing floors, shampooing carpets, minor painting, and repairing equipment.
  • Keep athletic areas and locker rooms clean.
  • Set up and take down gym/sport equipment.
  • Contribute to a clean and safe work environment by following appropriate cleaning and safety procedures, using equipment and supplies.
  • Perform regular quality control inspections, preventive maintenance, and report facility problems and deficiencies.
  • Work conference/event duties, including extensive contact with Conference Leadership and audio-visual equipment set-up and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure activities are carried out according to schedule and instructions, keep supervisor informed of problems, and request assistance as needed.
  • Remove bulk trash and recycling from campus.
Qualifications
  • High school education desirable.
  • One to two years of relevant commercial/institutional custodial experience.
  • Physical ability to perform heavy custodial work and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Good basic supervisory skills.
  • Ability to obtain a fleet license (unless approved by manager).

Other Information
