Under close supervision, perform routine custodial activities at assigned school sites or other district facilities; assist in maintaining buildings and grounds to ensure a clean, orderly, and secure environment; serve on a small crew for routine and deep cleaning; perform related duties as assigned. The classification summary provides examples of typical tasks:

1. Sweep, scrub, mop, wax, and polish floors; vacuum rugs and carpets; spot clean and shampoo carpets.
2. Clean classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, kitchens, lounges, offices, and other facilities; empty waste, spot mop spills, remove gum, debris, graffiti.
3. Disinfect drinking fountains and restrooms; fill dispensers; clean mirrors and tiles; unclog drains and toilets.
4. Assist with debris removal from grounds; inspect rooftops and gutters; water landscaped areas.
5. Replace light bulbs; clean chalkboards, erasers, furniture, windows, blinds, and floors.
6. Maintain security by locking/unlocking doors; operate boilers, set alarms.
7. Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and small tools.
8. Report hazards and maintenance needs; perform emergency utility shut-offs; operate emergency generators.
9. Prepare facilities for events; set up furniture and equipment; clean after events.
10. Move and arrange furniture; perform minor repairs; participate in campus cleaning during vacations.
11. Remain on call for emergencies.

Knowledge of proper custodial methods, safety procedures, and equipment operation is essential. Ability to perform custodial activities, operate equipment, follow directions, and meet schedules is required.

Minimum qualifications include completion of eighth grade and six months of custodial experience or equivalent training/experience. A valid California Class C driver’s license is required for certain work assignments.
