Job summary

YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc. is seeking a Custodian/Maintenance staff member to keep the branch clean, safe, and welcoming for staff and members.

You will assist in preventive maintenance, restock supplies, and support the annual campaign while upholding the organization’s values. The role emphasizes a positive attitude, teamwork, and adherence to policies, including a background check and CPR/First Aid within 30 days.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment.
  • Experience in custodial or maintenance roles preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and be eligible to work with children per Georgia guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain branch cleanliness and safety with urgency and prioritization.
  • Report maintenance needs to Facilities Manager and Branch Manager.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Restock supplies in designated areas and keep storage areas organized.
  • Provide courteous customer service to members and staff.

POSITION SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for maintaining a clean, welcoming environment for our staff and members. As part of this team, you allow members and program participants to enjoy a sanitary and secure environment to pursue their health and well-being.In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc. is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Maintain the branch’s cleanliness and safety with a sense of urgency and prioritization (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning, etc.)Communicate maintenance needs, issues, and recommend solutions to Facilities Manager and Branch ManagerPerform routine inspections and maintenance checks of the facilities as a means of preventative maintenanceEnsure the fulfillment of goods in designated areas, such as paper towels, soap, sanitizer, etc.Empty and clean wastebaskets throughout the branchArrange equipment in the custodial storage areas in a neat and orderly mannerAssist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer serviceAssist in the Annual Campaign fundraising program for the YMCAMaintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, peers, and program participantsWillingly perform other duties as assignedThis organization has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of consumers in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement. This organization takes every allegation of abuse or misconduct seriously and will fully cooperate with the authorities to investigate all cases of alleged abuse or misconduct. Employees and volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization. An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:Minimum of 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.Must have the ability to operate cleaning equipment.Experience in custodial or maintenance work settings preferred.CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment.Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines.
