Job summary

The Salvation Army Hagerstown Corps is seeking a part-time, non-exempt housekeeping assistant. You’ll maintain a clean, safe building and grounds, perform routine cleaning, and help with setup for meetings and events.

The role requires physical energy to lift heavy items, operate cleaning equipment, and occasionally drive a Salvation Army vehicle for transports. Prior housekeeping experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of housekeeping experience or equivalent.
• Valid State Driver’s License preferred.
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs and work in indoor/outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean environment for staff and visitors; rubbish removal and cleaning duties.
• Clean bathrooms, dust, sweep, mop, and replenish supplies.
• Vacuum floors, polish fixtures, and sanitize surfaces.
• Operate cleaning equipment and report maintenance needs.
• Assist with setting up rooms for events and meetings.
• Use Salvation Army vehicle for pickups/deliveries as needed.

Location: Hagerstown Corps – Hagerstown, MarylandPosition Type: Regular – Part-time; non-exempt (28 hours/week)Pay Rate: $15.00/hourThis position is responsible for:Maintaining a clean working environment for all staff and visitors at the Salvation Army building and grounds and promoting health and safety. Duties include picking up and taking out trash, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning, and stocking bathrooms, making sure buildings are secure, cleaning windows and mirrors, and performing minor building repairs.Key Responsibilities:Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms, cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies.Sweeps, vacuums, mops, strips, buffs, and waxes floors.Cleans windows, dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.Empties trash cans daily, collect trash from grounds, and sweeps outside walkways.Maintains boiler room, laundry room, maintenance closets; and ensures all storage areas are orderly and clean.Assists in performing building maintenance, painting, and repair work.Use the Salvation Army vehicle to pick up and/or deliver miscellaneous items or to transport passengers, as needed.Assist in setting up tables and chairs for meeting rooms and special events.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (over 50 lbs.) frequently.Heavy mobility duties requiring frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, and reaching.Ability to transport merchandise and supplies regularly.Work may involve operating a vehicle.Requires physical energy to perform housekeeping, maintenance, and groundskeeping tasks.Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat (above 100°) and cold (below 32°) for periods longer than one hour.Exposure to environmental factors such as wind, humidity, and noise (requiring raised voice to be heard).Work may involve hazards, including moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical currents, chemicals, high places, and high heat.Duties are performed in environments that may require use of cleaning agents and equipment.Conditions may involve physically demanding and repetitive tasks throughout the workday.Employee Benefits:Paid Time OffRetirement Savings Plan AvailableSupplemental Insurance AvailableVoluntary Life Insurance and more!MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREDEducation and ExperienceHigh School Diploma, or GED AND one (1) year experience performing general housekeeping duties; ORany equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Licenses and CertificationsValid State Driver’s License, preferred.Equal Opportunity Employer: Veterans | Disabled
