Job summary

The Town of East Granby is seeking a Full-Time Custodian for the Department of Public Works. This is a 40-hour per week, benefit eligible position and is represented by AFSCME, AFL-CIO Local 1303-253. The base hourly rate is $21.03.

The scheduled hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00am – 6:30pm. This position is responsible for cleanliness, maintenance, repairs and daily opening of town-owned buildings and grounds (excluding those managed by the school system).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience maintaining buildings, grounds and mechanical equipment.
• Custodial experience in a commercial setting strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with and ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment; basic carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and mechanical work desirable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of town-owned buildings and grounds and perform daily opening procedures.
• Assist in set-up and breakdown of events and leave spaces ready for use after events.
• Perform minor repairs to buildings, systems and maintenance equipment (carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC, etc.).

Job description

The Town of East Granby is seeking qualified applicants for a Full-Time Custodian for the Department of Public Works. The scheduled hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00am – 6:30pm.

This position is responsible for cleanliness, maintenance, repairs and daily opening of town-owned buildings and grounds (excluding those managed by the school system). This includes but is not limited to sweeping, mopping and polishing floors; trash removal, disinfecting high touch surface, and restocking bathroom and cleaning supplies as needed. Assists in the set-up and breakdown of events in Town buildings. Responsible for general cleaning at the conclusion of events, leaving the space ready for use. Performs minor repairs to buildings, building systems and maintenance equipment. (e.g. carpentry, painting, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, etc)

Qualified candidates will have a High School Diploma or equivalent and experience maintaining buildings, grounds and mechanical equipment. Custodial experience in a commercial setting with demonstrated knowledge of cleaning techniques including floor care procedures strongly preferred. Familiarity with and ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment along with basic skills in carpentry, plumbing, HVACand mechanical work highly desirable.
