QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent.

SUPERVISES: Custodial Helpers / Student Custodians

JOB GOAL: Work with Head Custodian and Principal to provide a clean, safe educational environment for all students.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Clean (exhibit good housekeeping skills), check (lights, windows, doors, set alarm, secure building, etc.), and secure assigned areas such as classrooms, stairways, halls, restrooms, locker rooms as required/directed.
2. Report regularly at assigned time.
3. Deviate from assigned work schedule only as requested by supervisor.
4. Wash windows; clean furniture, rugs, and carpeting; scrub/wax floors.
5. Mow, trim, and clean around building, shrubs and plants, and assist with repairs on playground equipment, fences, septic system, athletic fields, etc.
6. Repair furniture and tools, replacing screws, glides, etc., as needed.
7. Clear walks and entrances, shovel snow, remove ice and debris, as needed.
8. Assist in setting up gym or other areas for activities such as assemblies, programs, athletic, or intramural events as required and/or directed.
9. Give proper care and preventive maintenance of all equipment as needed.
10. Report in writing to the Head Custodian about irregularities, malfunctioning equipment, or problems as needed.
11. Assist with summer maintenance by conducting preventive maintenance and maintaining the exterior and interior of school buildings/structures.
12. Repair and assist in repairs of district buildings and equipment, including roofs, windows, heating system, plumbing system, etc.
13. Occasional work with equipment/devices involving electricity, natural gas, & hydraulic fluids, such as electric floor scrubbers and other cleaning equipment.
14. Participate in training programs as required by the District.
15. Deal with occasional exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
16. Deal with students in a friendly manner, even the occasional unruly student.
17. Comply with all Plain Local Board of Education policies and procedures.
18. Perform other duties as directed.
