Job summary

The Salvation Army Belleville Corps is seeking a reliable Custodian to perform general cleaning and upkeep of the corps building and grounds. This part-time role is 25 hours per week with starting pay up to $16.00 per hour, based on experience and duties.

Responsibilities include housekeeping, light maintenance, grounds upkeep, and reporting major repairs. A High School Diploma or GED and a valid class E driver's license are required, along with MVR checks.

Qualifications

• Change burned out light bulbs in overhead and exterior fixtures.
• Maintain Corps grounds including yard work, snow removal, and lawn care.
• Assist with small repairs and report major repairs as needed.
• Maintain custodial inventory and keep janitorial room orderly.

Job description

The Salvation Army Belleville Corps is looking for a reliable candidate to fill the role of Custodian. This individual is responsible for the general maintenance and custodial duties of the Corps building and grounds. This is a part-time, 25 hours per week position, with a starting pay up to $16.00 per hour.

The Salvation Army Belleville corps is located at 20 Glory Place, Belleville, Illinois.

Essential Functions

1. Perform housekeeping duties including dusting, window washing, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, vacuuming/shampooing/spot cleaning carpets, sweeping/mopping/buffing/stripping/waxing tile floors, etc.
2. Assist with preventive maintenance of furnaces (changing filters) and perform other minor maintenance.
3. Change burned out light bulbs in overhead light fixtures, exterior light fixtures, and exit lights.
4. Maintain Corps grounds to include yard work, trash removal, snow removal, lawn mowing and any additional outside repairs as necessary.
5. Assist with any small or minor repairs and note any major repair that needs to take place in the buildings.
6. Maintain proper housekeeping in janitorial room. Assists with up-to-date inventory of cleaning supplies and custodial equipment.

Education and Experience

Position requires a High School Diploma or GED with one-year related work experience. Combination of training and experience will be considered. Ability to read and comprehend a job description, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet. Basic communication skills to facilitate good communications between visitors and other employees. Requires valid class \"E\" driver's license and must pass The Salvation Army MVR check.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

Capable of frequently lifting 30 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds. Occasionally moves 100 pounds or more using dolly/cart/truck. Majority of lifting is from floor to waist height. Some lifting required above waist and shoulder high, but it will be at a reduced weight. Position will have to bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items to accomplish this job. Occasionally climb a ladder to work (replace light bulbs, etc.). Some of this work will be outdoors and it will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
