Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a part-time Custodian in Battle Creek, MI to maintain cleanliness of assigned areas and support facility operations. You will perform routine cleaning, light maintenance, and ensure sanitary facilities for staff and visitors.

Qualified candidates have a High School Diploma or GED (preferred) and janitorial experience. Proficiency with basic computer tools and willingness to learn new software is a plus. Benefits included for eligible employees.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of windows, desks, floors, surfaces, and fixtures.
• Vacuum carpets and shampoo as needed.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms and kitchen areas.
• Manage trash, recyclables, and supply organization.
• Assist with space setup and minor repairs as directed.
• Report maintenance needs to supervisors.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely and maintain tools.
• Support with outdoor cleaning and basic building tasks as required.

Job description

Position Summary: The Custodian performs routine and general cleaning, maintaining assigned area(s) to meet staff, clients, and customer satisfaction.

• Clean and dust all horizontal and vertical surfaces including windows, doors, desks, shelves, intake vents, tables, chairs, and cabinets
• Maintain clean carpets by detailed vacuuming, spot removal and shampooing
• Perform hard surface care for tile, concrete, tabletops, drinking fountains, and counters including buffing, sweeping, washing, polishing, spot removal and disinfecting.
• Perform spot cleaning for walls, light switches, and doors as needed
• Service and sanitize restrooms by cleaning floors, bathtubs, showers, sinks, urinals, toilets, and mirrors
• Ensure cleanliness of kitchen counters, sinks, appliances, and floors
• Empty trash and recycle receptacles; replace liners as needed
• Assist with program space set up as directed (tables, chairs, etc.)
• Monitor and report maintenance repairs
• Organize cleaning supplies
• Maintain outdoor property as needed
• Assist with building repairs as needed, such as painting, moving furniture or plumbing
• Clean and maintain grease trap monthly and reporting the findings to the officers (if applicable)
• Perform other duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities:

• Safely operates and maintains equipment such as snowblowers, floor buffers, floor scrubbers, lawn mowers and lawn trimmers.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma / GED preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Janitorial experience preferred

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Computer Skills:

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (preferred)
• Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint (preferred)
• Willingness to learn new software as needed

Certificates and Licenses:

• Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed

Part Time (25 hours per week)
