Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking a Custodial Area Manager to lead the Custodial and Warehouse Services program in KCPS, coordinating the work of the Assistant Custodial Manager and Zone supervisors to maintain high cleanliness standards across facilities.

This exempt, full-time role requires supervision experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to manage hours, costs, and training programs while fostering positive relationships with school staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least three years of supervisory experience in custodial services.
• Alternate: Associate’s degree with three years supervisory experience.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary Manage the Custodial program for the Kansas City Missouri School District, and maintain the highest standard possible. Oversee and train the Assist Custodial Manager and Zone supervisors. Maintain public relations within the facility.

What You’ll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)

• Maintain the highest level of quality within the Custodial Department with the resources available
• Gain high morale of department personnel.
• Maintain a high quality of management practices.
• Maintain consistent and respectful service to the School District.
• Provide the opportunity for individual development for each manager and supervisor, and assist in any area in which they feel they need growth.
• Provide the opportunity for individual development for each custodial staff member.
• Handle all requests with a good sense of urgency.
• Control man hours, supply cost and overtime.
• Maintain up-to-date records.
• Oversee special programs and special training needs set forth by the District and see them through to completion.
• Continue to improve communications with all schools and custodial employees.
• Attend appropriate School District sponsored service and activities.
• Review monthly inspections and make certain they are leaving a high professional
• Attend Monthly Joint Reviews to report on progress, accomplishments and concerns each month.
• Oversee and coordinate all Operations activities and the individual needs of each facility
• Support co-workers and managers in performing their assignments successfully.
• Promptly share with the Custodial Manager all pertinent information regarding the facility served.
• Maintain knowledge of current school district trends and needs.
• Coordinate activities and special functions of the District.
• Continue development of skills, and attend training sessions, to better serve the customer.
• Must be able to work all shifts and other duties as assigned.

To Be Successful at This Job, You’ll Need To: (Minimum Qualifications)

• High School Diploma (or G.E.D. certificate)

AND Three years work experience in supervisory position with an emphasis in custodial field.

OR

• Associate’s degree and three years supervisory experience in a related field.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, with a background in facilities management and/or business.

Physical Demands This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. The job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Length of work year: In person, 12 months - 261 days
