Job summary

STI in Knoxville, TN is seeking a lead custodian to supervise daily cleaning operations in classrooms, offices and restrooms. You will operate floor machines, buffers, vacuums and other custodial equipment, and you may train new staff.

Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, cleaning restrooms, dusting, trash removal, reporting facility deficiencies, and performing light maintenance on equipment. Some simple records may be kept.

• Lead custodian with leadership tasks assigned by supervisor.
• Operate custodial tools and equipment including floor washing machines, buffers, and vacuums.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, and buff floors by hand or with machines.
• Clean restrooms—sanitize showers, toilets, sinks, walls, mirrors, and trash areas.
• Clean offices or facilities by dusting, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, washing walls/windows, emptying trash, and tidying areas.
• Police grounds, pick up trash, and note maintenance needs.

• Operates and/or utilizes a variety of custodial related tools and equipment, including floor washing machines, buffers, and vacuums.
• Performing General Physical Activities: Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, and buffs floors by hand or by machine.
• Cleans restrooms by sanitizing showers, toilets, cleaning sinks, washing floors and walls, cleaning mirrors, and emptying trash.
• Cleans offices, classrooms, or other facilities by dusting furniture, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, washing walls and windows, emptying trash, and straightening work areas.
• Polices grounds to pick up trash and check for any other needed maintenance.
• May keep simple records and makes routine reports of facility deficiencies and materials needed to accomplish work.
• Performs light maintenance of equipment utilized.
• Trains new custodial workers.
