Job summary

The City of Abilene, Texas, is seeking a part-time custodian to perform cleaning and light maintenance in public buildings. Under supervision, you will sweep, mop, dust, and restock facilities and ensure a safe, orderly environment.

Responsibilities include operating custodial equipment, maintaining restroom supplies, and moving items as needed. A Texas driver's license is required or ability to obtain one within 90 days.

Qualifications

General Description

Under general and limited supervision, perform a wide variety of custodial maintenance duties to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment in public buildings. Performs cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance of assigned space.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position exercises no supervision over other employees.

Important And Essential Duties

Operate a variety of custodial equipment including vacuum cleaner, carpet machine, and buffer.

Experience And Training Guidelines

Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:

Experience

• Experience in custodial work is preferred.

Education/Training

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required.

License Or Certificate

A current valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.

Special Requirements

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Exposure to noise, outdoors, vibration, and confining work spaces.

Exposure to chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards.

Ability to travel to different sites.
