Annual Salary Range: $40,000 - $55,000

Location: School campuses located on the 4th floor of one building and the ground, fifth, and sixth floors of a separate building, approximately two blocks apart.

Job Overview

The Custodial Engineer maintains the cleanliness, appearance, and safety standards of the entire school. Responsibilities include routine cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing, minor repairs, and event support to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for students, families, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the cleanliness, tidiness, and safety of all school facilities, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and outdoor areas.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as repairing furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Assist with setting up for school events, meetings, and activities.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff, maintaining communication with supervision.
  • Handle deliveries and shipments, ensuring proper distribution to relevant departments.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, equipment, and school supplies; notify administration of restocking needs.
  • Execute minor repairs on plumbing, electrical systems, and other facilities as needed.
  • Plan and execute larger maintenance projects during breaks and summer periods in collaboration with the team.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs to identify hazards or damaged equipment/furniture.
  • Replace lightbulbs throughout the campuses as required.
  • Maintain a stocked toolbox with standard bolts and screws for furniture and equipment maintenance.
  • Repair holes in walls using plaster or sheetrock.
  • Sand, prime, and paint furniture as needed.
  • Procure and install small equipment such as cabinet locks, door sweeps, paper towel dispensers, and other items.
  • Report low supply levels to keep the job performed correctly.
  • Maintain bathrooms and common areas daily, ensuring paper is stocked and sanitizing areas as necessary.
  • Maintain daily records of maintenance cleanups per area.
  • Maintain supplies for restrooms, teacher lounge, executive team room, and events.
  • Set up events and large meetings according to the host’s instructions (e.g., admissions events, parent events, professional development days, board meetings).
  • Organize various inventories (health, school supplies, materials) and assist staff in locating supplies.
  • Support lunch and evening event coverage at the security desk as needed.
  • Receive, distribute, and track packages and deliveries; assist in sending mail and shipments.
  • Work with third parties to ensure HVAC operates properly; research vendors for emergency maintenance and summer projects.
  • Review estimates, quotes, and invoices to ensure they are within budget and quoted as tax exempt; forward to supervisor immediately upon receipt.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Crisis prevention and intervention training.
  • Security license (or willingness to complete a course upon hire).
Work Environment

This role requires frequent walking across the school campus, occasional travel between two separated buildings, and daily interaction with staff and students.

Physical Demands

Requires continuous standing, walking, and climbing stairs; ability to lift or move items above or around 100 pounds; typing capability; use of stairs during emergency drills.

Position Type and Hours of Work

Full‑time, non‑exempt. School operates 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday–Friday. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is dependent upon experience and degree obtained.
