Position Purpose

The Custodial Afternoon/Evening Shift Manager oversees daily custodial operations during their assigned shifts, ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment. They supervise a team of supervisors, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and maintain high standards of cleanliness. The role acts as a key contact between staff, leadership, and building occupants, fostering a positive work environment and delivering excellent service.

The manager handles staffing, onboarding, special projects, personnel management, equipment, supplies, vendor relations, and emergency responses, including snow removal, floods, fires, and building access issues.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Valid driver’s license per Dartmouth policies
• Minimum 7 years in hospitality, higher education, or healthcare
• At least 5 years training custodial/housekeeping staff
• Experience managing large facilities (>6 million sq ft)
• Experience managing 70+ FTE staff
• Ability to work effectively in teams and in a bargaining unit environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience fostering diversity and inclusion
• Knowledge of safety procedures and inventory management
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Flexibility to work different shifts
• Computer literacy with relevant software (e.g., Planon, Kronos)
• Commitment to sustainability and serving a diverse community
