Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety policies and ensure participant safety.
  • Plan, organize, and implement day camp programs and activities.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate day camp leaders and volunteers.
  • Provide active supervision of participants and maintain a safe program environment.
  • Communicate program information clearly to staff and guardians.
  • Maintain program records and prepare reports.
  • Monitor day camp expenditures and manage supplies within budget.

Salary Range: $17.25 - $17.25 Hourly

The Youth Program Assistant Director assists with the daily operation of an assigned summer day camp site, including program implementation, staff oversight, participant supervision, recordkeeping, and communication with families.

Supervision

The Youth Program Assistant Director reports to the Youth Program Director. This position assists with the supervision, training, evaluation, and direction of day camp leaders and volunteers at the assigned site.

Training

The following training and certifications must be completed or obtained as directed by the Champaign Park District:

  • Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification through the American Heart Association or another accredited organization.
  • CDC HEADS UP concussion training.
  • Facility-specific training.
  • Harassment prevention training.
  • Mandated Reporter certification.
  • Champaign Park District driver training and testing before operating a Park District vehicle, if driving is required.
Classification
  • Part-time 2 (not to exceed 19 hours per week on average).
  • Non-exempt, hourly.
Essential Functions
  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, and fellow employees.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Always uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality.
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing the day camp program and age-appropriate activities.
  • Assist with training, supervising, disciplining, and evaluating day camp leaders and volunteers.
  • Provide active supervision of participants and maintain a safe, secure, clean, and orderly program environment.
  • Lead and actively participate in recreational activities, programs, and field trips.
  • Respond promptly, accurately, and appropriately to emergencies, behavioral concerns, and other program-related situations in accordance with Park District policies and procedures.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with participants, parents or guardians, employees, volunteers, and members of the public.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Program Coordinator regarding program operations, participants, employees, volunteers, safety concerns, and other significant matters.
  • Communicate program information clearly and effectively to employees, participants, and parents or guardians.
  • Maintain accurate program records, including participant files, attendance records, sign-in and sign-out forms, and accident and incident reports.
  • Prepare parent or guardian newsletters, weekly schedules, payroll information, required reports, and supply or service requests.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of day camp expenditures in accordance with the approved budget.
  • Purchase, organize, maintain, and ensure the safe and appropriate use of program supplies and equipment.
  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Use creativity and resourcefulness when developing and implementing program activities.
  • Comply with equal opportunity and harassment laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily at a day camp site and may include indoor and outdoor locations.
  • May be exposed to heat, cold, rain, humidity, and other weather conditions.
  • Must be able to remain physically active while leading and supervising recreational activities and field trips.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and accurately to emergencies and other situations requiring immediate action.
  • Work requires regular interaction with children, parents or guardians, employees, volunteers, and members of the public.
  • Work may involve managing behavioral concerns, resolving conflicts, and responding to stressful or unexpected situations.
