This position is located in the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Organizational Culture and Wellness Bureau (OCWB), Metropolitan Police Academy (MPA), Curriculum Development and Instructional Design (CDID) Branch. CDID is responsible for designing and developing training curricula (recruit, in-service, specialized, promotional, and instructor certification) and establishing processes and standards related to curriculum and instruction. The Curriculum Specialist position contributes directly to MPD’s commitment to excellence by assisting in the design and improvement of police academy curricula, ensuring all curricula use best practices and adult learning theory, and updating curricula to reflect current MPD directives.
The incumbent will be responsible for the following:
Performing other assessment, curriculum, and instruction related duties as assigned by direct supervisor or CDID senior leadership team.
Bachelor's degree in education or related discipline is preferred.
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CS-09 grade level, or its non-District equivalent, gained from public or private sector. Examples of specialized experience for this position include experience designing synchronous and asynchronous trainings and curricula; experience conducting educational assessments and evaluation initiatives at a higher education institution or specialized professional training program (i.e., police academy, medical school, etc.); applying a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methods to measure, analyze, and evaluate the effectiveness of education/training in meeting established goals and standard; and experience gathering and analyzing data and information from multiple sources to generate and disseminate insights and recommendations that enable continuous improvement of curricula.

This is a union position and is covered under the National Association of Government Employees (NAGE) bargaining unit. You may be required to pay an agency fee through direct payroll deductions.
