Job Summary
Independently plan and implement academic affairs operations including faculty support, curriculum management and training.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
Curriculum and Pedagogy Manager (CPM) for General Chemistry courses plays an essential role supporting the General Chemistry courses (LPS A and PS11) offered by the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (CCB), which are large and logistically complex introductory and foundational courses primarily taken by first-years and sophomores. The position works closely with the faculty course heads to develop and deliver innovative curricula and course materials, and to organize and manage a team of graduate and undergraduate teaching staff. The Curriculum and Course Manager will report to CCB’s Director of Undergraduate Studies and Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies and work collegially with the rest of the undergraduate teaching staff.
Curriculum Development

- WorkswithDirectorofLaboratoryInstructionalProgramstoupdatelabsandoptimizeexperiments
- Creates/updatessectionmaterialstobeusedbyTeachingStaff;
- Experiments with and implements new pedagogical approaches.
Assessment, Assignments, Problem Sets
- WorkswiththeCourseHeadInstructor(s)todevelopstudentsassessmentsincludingin-class assignments, problem sets, midterms, and finalexams;
- Creates practiceexamsand practice exam answer keys;
- Creates answer keys for problem sets, and exams, contributes to grading rubrics;
- Inaddition to their primary course responsibilities,theCPMmay occasionallyprovideinstructional support and contribute to broader course development needs asrequiredto ensure student success.
Course Management and Coordination
- SupervisestheHeadAdministrationTFintheworktocreate,manageandupdatecourse Canvas site: posts syllabus, assignments, assessments, other coursematerials;
- SupervisestheHeadLabTFintheworktocoordinateLabcomponentwithTeachingLab Staff: requests necessary lab materials, organizes lab run-throughs with teaching staff, provides hands-on help wheneverneeded;
- Answersstudentandteachingstaffemails.
Teaching Staff Hiring, Training and Management
- Updatespositiondescriptions,solicitsapplications,andinterviewscandidatesforTeaching Assistants (TAs), Teaching Fellows (TFs), CourseAssistants (CAs), and Peer StudyLeaders;
- RunstrainingsessionsforTAs/TFs,CAsandPeerStudyLeaders;coordinateswithBOK Center for anyadditionalteaching training andfeedback;
- TogetherwithHeadTeachingStaff,schedules,plans,andrunsweeklystaffmeetings;
- Addressesandresolvesteachingstaffconcerns/conflicts/performanceissues.
Student Support
- Hostsweeklyofficehours;
- Meets with students1:1;
- Organizes and provides extra help to strugglingstudents;
- Supervises the Head Administration TF in the work to coordinate the accommodation requests from the Disability Access Office;
- Responsibilities include engaging in student-facing work that involves sensitive information and requires a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an office setting.
- This position requires 5 days, in office, on campus. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods oftime.
- Lifting (approximately 20to 30 pounds), bending, and other physicalexertion.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Superiororganizational,written,andinterpersonalcommunicationskills.
- Astrongdoctoralrecord ininorganic or physical chemistry is preferred.
- Experience teaching/mentoring undergraduate students in a laboratory setting is also strongly preferred.
Additional Information
- Appointment End Date: This is a one-year term position, renewable on a yearly basis contingent upon performance and curricular need.
- Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week
