Pala Band of Mission Indians is seeking a Cultural Consultant to serve as a cultural advisor for the Pala Tobacco Program and collaborate with staff, Elders, youth, and partners to honor traditions.

The role focuses on guiding educational materials, workshops, and community events that promote healthy lifestyles while preserving sacred tobacco practices. Strong communication and mentorship will be essential in this community-facing position.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in cultural studies, anthropology, sociology, or related field.
• 1–2 years of experience in multicultural organization, cultural resource management, or a relevant academic role.
• Valid California Driver's License and a DMV printout for background check.
• Fingerprint-based background check per Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
• Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free Workplace.

Responsabilidades

• Provide cultural guidance for the Pala Tobacco Program.
• Educate youth and community members on the traditional and sacred uses of tobacco and distinguish them from commercial tobacco products.
• Assist in developing culturally appropriate educational materials, presentations, and curriculum.
• Participate in workshops, community events, youth activities, and outreach.
• Lead or assist with cultural teachings.
• Assist with planning and implementing cultural workshops, prevention events, and community outreach activities.
• Support the development and implementation of Tribal policies related to commercial tobacco prevention while preserving traditional tobacco practices.
• Attend coalition meetings, planning meetings, trainings, and community gatherings.
• Identify culturally relevant resources, speakers, and educational opportunities that support the goals of the program.
• Serve as a cultural mentor and positive role model for youth participating in the Pala Tobacco Program.
