Job summary

The Army National Guard is seeking a Food Service Specialist to provide sustenance for Soldiers, plan menus, prepare and serve meals, and ensure food safety and sanitation in field or fixed facilities.

You will learn to operate field kitchen equipment, manage recipes, and pursue civilian career paths in restaurants or dining facilities. Training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training and nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training, with tuition assistance available.

Qualifications

• Standard and dietetic menus and recipes
• Food and supply ordering
• Storage of meats, poultry and other perishable items
• Interest in cooking, home economics, health, mathematics, accounting and chemistry

Responsibilities

• Bake, fry, braise, boil, simmer, steam and sauté as prescribed by Army recipes
• Operate, maintain and clean field kitchen equipment
• Perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment
