Job summary

Michigan State University in East Lansing invites applicants for Shaw Culinary Platform Attendant in Shaw Hall. The role organizes, prepares, and serves salad bars and hot/cold stations, assisting cooks and ensuring safe handling and timely service to MSU diners.

You will read weights and measures, weigh ingredients, and operate standard kitchen equipment with proper knife skills. The position requires a high school diploma, plus a year of full-time food prep experience, with regular weekend

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of full-time experience in food preparation.
Knowledge of kitchen safety practices.
Ability to read weights and measures and to weigh/measure ingredients.
Ability to perform basic math with whole numbers and fractions.
Knowledge of cooking methods such as sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling and steaming.
Ability to use knives and standard kitchen equipment.
Ability to prepare items with proper production timing for continuous service.
Occasional lifting of 26 to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

Organize, prepare, and supply food items for salad bars, cold and hot stations, and to-order serve in a Residential Dining Hall.
Assist cooks by combining ingredients, portioning, and serving from prepared to-order.
Maintain proper food handling and storage techniques to minimize waste and spoilage.
Work in a diverse team environment and directly interact with customers.
Follow production timing to ensure freshly cooked products are ready for continuous service.
