Job summary

Michigan State University is seeking a Shaw Culinary Platform Attendant to organize, prepare, and supply items for salad bars and food stations inside Shaw Hall. You will assist cooks by portioning ingredients and serving from prepared to-order while ensuring proper food handling and storage to minimize waste.

This role requires the ability to read weights and measures, basic arithmetic, and safe knife/kitchen equipment use.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of full-time experience in food preparation and use of kitchen equipment.
• Knowledge of kitchen safety practices.
• Ability to read weights and measures and weigh/measure ingredients.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions.
• Knowledge of methods of food preparation including sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling and steaming.
• Ability to use knives and standard kitchen equipment.
• Ability to prepare items with proper production timing to ensure freshness.
• Occasional lifting of 26 to 75 pounds.
