Job summary

Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center in Alabama seeks a Director of Recreation/Activity Therapy to lead and coordinate recreation and leisure services within a 118-bed acute psychiatric hospital and residential program for youth. You will join an interdisciplinary treatment team, define treatment goals, plan programs, and model professional care while supervising staff.

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters preferred in Recreational Therapy, Fine Art, Music, or Expressive Therapy.
• Three to five years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with an understanding of mental illness, preferred.
• CTRS certification/licensure required by state or national governing body in Recreation Therapy.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement recreation/leisure services for assigned program as part of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Define and implement treatment goals and provide continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.
• Coordinate and supervise recreation/therapy activities to support patient treatment and engagement.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to tailor activities to individual treatment plans.

Responsibilities

Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center is a 118 bed Acute Psychiatric Hospital and Residential Treatment Center for children and adolescents ages four through eighteen. The 55,000 square foot facility is situated on approximately 10 acres in the southeast corner of Alabama, less than 20 miles from both Florida and Georgia. In addition to the living units, the facility houses the New Day Academy; a state-supported year-round K-12th grade school with vocational opportunities. The hospital employs approximately 195 staff members.

Laurel Oaks is currently seeking a Director of Recreation/Activity Therapy. The Director of Recreation/Activity Therapy is Responsible for planning and implementing recreation/leisure services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.

Qualifications
