Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to care for CTICU patients in a high-acuity cardiothoracic unit. This full-time rotating role includes 13-hour shifts, weekend coverage, and 100% nights option if desired.

You will work with critical care and surgical teams, manage meds and ventilatory support, perform central lines and chest tube care, and participate in post-transplant protocols while providing patient and family education.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in nursing or PA program required.
• Acute care certification required for APRNs.
• Current IL RN license and IL APRN license required.
• Credentialing through NMH MSO required.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive management in CTICU including transplants.
• Develop and implement plans of care with critical care and surgical teams.
• Coordinate consultative services into patient plans.
• Prescribe and manage medications including vasoactive drugs.
• Manage ventilatory status with respiratory therapy.
• Perform procedures such as central/arterial lines and chest tube care.
• Document patient status accurately in the medical record.
• Respond to and lead ICU emergency response situations.
• Educate patients and families throughout care.
• Oversee cardiac support devices and post-transplant protocols.
