Job summary

The Manchester School District is seeking a Career Development Specialist to develop, manage, and implement opportunities for student post-secondary plans under the CTE Director. The role focuses on creating career pathways, work-based learning, and college readiness through events and partnerships.

Responsibilities include coordinating recruiting events, liaison duties with administrators, businesses, and families, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws.

  • Develop community and post-secondary partnerships with local businesses and colleges.
  • Organize and implement formal co-op and internship opportunities, including trainings and employer matching.
  • Coordinate referrals for internships and ELOs and monitor students in work-based learning.

Position Summary : Under the direction of the Career and Technical Education Director, the Career Development Specialist will develop, manage, and implement opportunities for student post-secondary plans.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • BA, BS, or M.Ed in Education, Marketing/Business, or a related field.
  • Ability to adapt to ever-changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, maintain FERPAconfidentiality, meet deadlines and schedules, work as part of a team, work with detailed information and data, and maintain effective working relationship
  • Ability to develop, refine, and implement college readiness skills, such as resume writing, interview skills, and/or coaching
  • Ability to promote, solicit, and interact with businesses, focusing on connecting students with career pathway exploration
  • Ability to plan, oversee, implement, and refine events pertaining to work-based learning to ensure continued visibility of District offerings. (i.e., field trips, recruiting events, work-based learning opportunities)
  • Ability to communicate with excellent oral, written, and human relations skill
  • Experience recruiting students to new and innovative educational experiences, such as a new competency-based high school, summer camp, and early college opportunities.

Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Responsible for developing, overseeing, and administrating career pathways, work-based learning opportunities, and Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs) for students to obtain high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand occupations for current or emerging professions
  • Collect, interpret, and analyze student-related data for the purpose of monitoring the career development program’s progress in meeting student needs and making adjustments when needed
  • Plan, coordinate, and develop recruiting events to promote CTE Programs that include middle and high school student populations, ensuring continuity through grade levels
  • Serve as the liaison between school administrators, faculty, students, parents/guardians, and community partners/mentors for the purpose of optimizing student learning opportunities and experiences.
  • Work with a wide range of community and school partners for the purpose of designing, implementing, and monitoring activities and programs for the purpose of career awareness, exploration, and preparation (i.e., classroom presentations and school visits)
  • Establish and maintain competencies, learning activities, required assessments, and documentation to develop, implement, and assess work-based learning and Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs) for student's individual Learning Plans and career portfolios throughout the year
  • Develop community and post-secondary partnerships with a variety of local businesses, agencies, organizations, and colleges; awareness through center tours, community linkages, and representation at public events
  • Develop, organize, and implement formal co-op and/or internship opportunities, including training agreements, participation and completion requirements, and participant/employer matching for the purpose of having organized processes for students and business partners
  • Solicit and coordinate the referral process for internships, work-based learning opportunities, and ELOs.
  • Regularly monitor students enrolled in work-based learning, internships, and ELOs, including site-based visits
  • Recruit students to attend the Summer Camp opportunity at MST and participate in the planning, scheduling, and implementation of this yearly event;
  • Implement and ensure compliance with the laws and regulations pertaining to work-based learning as outlined by the New Hampshire Department of Education and the New Hampshire Department of Labor.

Specified Length/Hours of Position:

  • Flexible working hours to include 7:30 am to 4:00 pm during normal school days, some evenings, and weekend hours, along with time during the summer as needed to fulfill the duties of the position. Occasional site visits at community businesses and state agencies.
  • This is a non-affiliated federally-funded 228-day salaried position. Continuation of this position is contingent upon available funding.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $58,400 to $62,000 Per Year
