Job summary

Rowan College of South Jersey is seeking a full-time Career Coach to provide individualized and group career development services for adult learners and others returning to the workforce.

You will guide participants through career exploration, skill development, and readiness for workforce training programs, using labor market information and assessments to create pathways and monitor progress, with a focus on overcoming barriers and achieving educational and employment goals.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in career counseling, workforce development, case management, or employment services preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with adult learners and individuals returning to the workforce.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Teams, and career development tools and assessments.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to support individuals in overcoming barriers to success.
  • Preferred knowledge of labor market information and career pathways.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with varied hours, including nights and weekends, to meet department and College needs.
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, colleagues, and community partners

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one career coaching focused on career exploration, pathway planning, and career skills training.
  • Conduct assessments to identify participants’ strengths, interests, and skills.
  • Facilitate workshops and group sessions on topics such as soft skills, workplace expectations, digital literacy, and career readiness.
  • Support participants in developing essential employability skills, including communication, professionalism, time management, and problem-solving.
  • Guide participants through career pathway exploration without engaging in job placement or employer matching.
  • Monitor and document participant progress through completion of training, milestones, and program engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records in case management or tracking systems.
  • Provide motivational coaching and accountability to support participant persistence and success.
  • Assist participants in identifying and navigating personal and systemic barriers to success.
  • Guide participants through career exploration using labor market information and career assessment tools.
  • Collaborate with internal program staff to support participant outcomes and program goals.
  • Stay current with career development, best practices, tools, and workforce trends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Career Coach provides individualized and group-based career development services to adult learners, dislocated workers, and other individuals returning to the workforce. This role focuses on career exploration, skill development, and readiness for workforce training programs. The Career Coach supports participants in identifying career pathways, building foundational skills, overcoming barriers, and achieving educational and employment goals.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position ending June 30, 2027.
Examples of Duties
