Job Description: Agriculture Science Teacher

Provides instruction in selected areas of Agriculture Science to ensure students gain appropriate knowledge and skills about the industry and are prepared for careers and post-secondary opportunities.

The role includes:

  1. Delivering content-related and appropriate instruction based on state and local curriculum through classroom, laboratory, and co-curricular experiences.
  2. Implementing community-based instruction and projects aligned with program guidelines.
  3. Establishing leadership opportunities by creating a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO), such as FFA, as a co-curricular tool.
  4. Managing and maintaining program facilities and equipment.
  5. Adhering to all state guidelines for program implementation.
  6. Creating a classroom environment that promotes active learning.
  7. Communicating responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and leadership.
  8. Managing student attendance and punctuality.
  9. Following all relevant policies and procedures.
  10. Upholding professional ethics.
  11. Participating in professional development activities.
  12. Preparing for responsibilities during absences.
  13. Engaging with professional organizations like ACTE and GACTE for learning opportunities.
  14. Facilitating home-school communication.
  15. Integrating technology into instruction.
  16. Maintaining positive staff morale and performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution recognized by GaPSC.

Certification/Licensure

For Secondary School: GaPSC certification in FLD [788] or passing the GACE Agricultural Education assessment, plus meeting induction requirements.

For Elementary School: Same certification or assessment requirements, with additional coursework at UGA or ABAC for PreK-5 endorsement if needed.

Option 2: Hold a K-5 elementary education certificate and pass the GACE Agricultural Education assessment.

Experience Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of occupational work experience in the field preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and carry 30-50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to push or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • May require stooping or crouching.
