Job summary

Akumin is seeking a Radiologic (X‑Ray) Technologist to produce diagnostic radiographic images and assist licensed practitioners in exams. You will prepare, document, and administer contrast and radiation exposure in compliance with regulations.

You will use EMR systems, PACS, and DICOM for image sharing, maintain patient confidentiality, and work across multiple locations with strong customer service and organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience (required).
  • Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology preferred.
  • ARRT (R) credential and state license, if applicable (required).
  • CPR Certification and BLS from AHA or ARC (required).
  • ACLS certification where applicable (required).
  • Valid state driver’s license (required).
  • Ability to work at multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Administer ionizing radiation to obtain diagnostic exams as ordered by physicians.
  • Maintain proficiency with X-ray equipment and demonstrate competency.
  • Document all radiation and contrast procedures in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, radiologists, and staff.
  • Ensure patient safety, including pre-screening for contraindications.
  • Use EMR systems, PACS, and DICOM for image sharing and interpretation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in HIPAA compliance.
  • Identify and address concerns and resolve conflicts with a team approach.
  • Train and orient new technologists or patient coordinators as needed.
  • Complete annual and site-specific competencies/in-services as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership to support radiology.

Job description

Position Summary

As a Radiologic (X‑Ray) Technologist you are responsible for producing diagnostic radiographic images for medical interpretation through the use of ionizing radiation. The technologist performs or assists the licensed practitioner in completing diagnostic exams, prepares, administers, and documents activities related to contrast administration and radiation exposure in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Administer ionizing radiation to obtain diagnostic exams as ordered by physicians.
  • Maintain proficiency with diverse X‑ray equipment and demonstrate competency.
  • Document all radiation and contrast procedures in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, radiologists, and other staff.
  • Ensure patient safety, including pre‑screening for contraindications and aseptic injection technique.
  • Use EMR systems, PACS, and DICOM for image sharing and interpretation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Identify and address concerns, solve problems, and resolve conflicts with a team‑oriented approach.
  • Train and orient new technologists or patient coordinators as needed.
  • Complete annual and ongoing education and site‑specific competencies/in‑services as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership to support the radiology department.
Position Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience (required).
  • Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology or equivalent experience (preferred).
  • ARRT (R) credential and state license, if applicable (required).

  • Strong customer service, organizational, multi‑tasking, and critical thinking skills.
  • Basic computer literacy with radiology software.
  • Local travel may be required.
Preferred Requirements
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year of X‑ray technologist experience.
Physical Requirements

The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions during patient transport on a mobile unit, to strong magnetic fields, and to blood/body fluids and infectious disease. More than 50% of the time: sit, stand, walk, repetitive hand, arm, and leg movements, see, speak, and hear. Less than 50% of the time: stoop, kneel, crawl, climb, balance, and carry or lift non‑ambulatory patients or equipment.
